Prenatal care

As soon as you learn you’re pregnant, you’ll want to make an appointment to begin receiving prenatal care. It’s one of the best things you can do to help ensure a healthy pregnancy. Choosing a physician who’s a great fit for you is the first step in ensuring that all of your prenatal care needs are met.

What to expect from our prenatal care team

The Great Plains Health prenatal care team includes highly skilled obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYNs) and family medicine doctors. Many people travel from outside our area to receive prenatal care from the providers here.

Here are some of the many ways our team will help you during this important time:

Regular checkups. During these checkups, your provider will monitor your baby’s development, check on your health and perform routine tests.

Healthy pregnancy advice. There’s more to think about while you’re pregnant, including all those do’s and don’ts. Our providers are here to answer all of your questions and provide the trusted advice you need to stay healthy.

Care for high-risk pregnancies. Our providers have expertise in managing conditions that can increase health risks during pregnancy, including gestational diabetes and high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia). For more complicated pregnancies, our team collaborates with maternal-fetal medicine doctors.

Pregnancy classes

Our labor and delivery nurses and certified lactation consultants lead free classes, which can help you prepare for the amazing journey ahead.

  • Prepared Childbirth covers everything from pregnancy changes to what to expect during labor. It also includes a tour of our birthing facility. Classes are usually held the first Saturday of every month, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Breastfeeding 101 gives you the knowledge and confidence to breastfeed your baby. Breastfeeding 101 classes are usually held the first Tuesday of every month, from 6 to 8 p.m.
