Ophthalmology

When you need a doctor to treat a vision issue, you don't have to travel far. At Great Plains Health Eye Institute (formerly Eye Surgeons of Nebraska), we offer comprehensive surgical and nonsurgical ophthalmologic services for people of all ages. So whether you need a highly skilled eye surgeon or a dilated eye exam for diabetes care, we can help.

Our team includes board-certified ophthalmologist Kristen Burwick, MD. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Nebraska Medical Association, and the Nebraska Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

Our ophthalmology services

When you choose us for your eye care needs, you can expect personalized care. Our team will create a plan designed for your needs and will take the time to explain all your options, so you can make the treatment decision that’s best for you.

Our eye care services include:

Eye surgeries and procedures. These include:

  • Cataract surgery, including YAG laser surgery for cataracts that have developed after previous cataract surgery.
  • Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.
  • Corneal surgery.
  • Dry eye procedures.
  • Eyelid surgery (medical, not cosmetic).

Non-surgical treatments. These include medications for conditions such as macular degeneration.

Diabetes eye care. We provide medical eye exams to help check for signs of diabetic retinopathy, which can cause blindness.

Routine eye care. We offer comprehensive dilated eye exams to check for early signs of eye diseases. If you don't have vision insurance, that isn't a problem. Your medical insurance will pay for your exam with us because we are medical doctors. Note that we do not provide eyeglass prescription services.

Pediatric eye disease treatment. Pediatric conditions we treat include strabismus (crossed eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye) and double vision (diplopia).
