We help donors create a better patient experience.
The Foundation exists to inspire philanthropy that will enhance the quality and availability of healthcare services for the patients and communities served by Great Plains Health.
Making a difference
The Great Plains Health Care Foundation partners with generous individuals, businesses and foundations to contribute the resources necessary to provide unmatched healthcare to our region. Donor support helps expand service lines, purchase the latest equipment and technology, provide regional outreach, and support the education of healthcare professionals. The Foundation has been a vital source of funding for projects throughout the organization that enhances patient care and improves the patient experience.
Great Plains Health is an independent not-for-profit healthcare system. All revenue is reinvested back into the organization to support the enhancement and improvement of patient care for the region. The Foundation supports important projects that are vital to enhancing healthcare, but may not receive priority funding due to limited hospital resources. Furthermore, all decisions are made locally and based upon the needs of the population served in west-central Nebraska by community volunteers serving on both the hospital board and foundation board.
Join Great Plains Healthcare Foundation in this effort to keep Great Plains Health an invaluable resource in the health of your community. By working together, we can ensure the expanding healthcare needs of our region are met.
A generous spirit and grateful heart
In his role as a physician, Dr. Todd Hlavaty, Callahan Cancer Center, gets a firsthand glimpse at the impact of the Great Plains Health Care Foundation.
“I can see directly what we give through the lives of our patients,” Dr. Hlavaty said. “The Foundation enhances my ability to practice, and it’s just incredible how it serves our community.”
This impact motivates Dr. Hlavaty and his wife, Julie, to be passionate supporters of the Foundation. So much so, Dr. and Mrs. Hlavaty hit a meaningful milestone in 2022. Their donations over the years now total more than $100,000.
Dr. Hlavaty, a board-certified radiation oncologist, has been the medical director of the Callahan Cancer Center at Great Plains Health for nearly 27 years. His engagement with the Foundation began immediately, and he has served on its board of directors for the past seven years.
Dr. and Mrs. Hlavaty say that giving provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the people and places that invest in your life.
“Be grateful for what you have, and find ways to express your gratitude,” Dr. Hlavaty said. “Find something you are passionate about, and indirectly and directly contribute. Supporting the Foundation is a way of expressing gratitude to everyone who has helped me along the way.”
As a physician, Dr. Hlavaty says he carries a responsibility to be a leader in the delivery of healthcare. The new ER comes to his mind as an impactful Foundation project, and he is an advocate for the Foundation’s latest project, expanding access to a new 3D tomosynthesis mammogram machine.
“Giving to the Foundation is essential. It shows that you believe in the cause and you believe in caring for patients in a more efficient manner,” Dr. Hlavaty said.
A 3D Tomosynthesis Mammogram machine can help discover breast cancer at an earlier stage, as well as reduce callbacks and detect cancer in dense tissue.
The Foundation’s mission, to inspire philanthropy that will enhance the quality and availability of healthcare services for our patients and community, is close to Dr. and Mrs. Hlavaty’s hearts.
