When babies are born prematurely or with an illness, experts in the Great Plains Health level II NICU give them the extra care and support they need.
Our NICU team cares for babies born as early as 32 weeks. We also care for babies who have health issues, such as jaundice, anemia, breathing trouble and feeding problems.
Having a level II NICU in our hospital means that families do not have to travel out of town to visit their premature or ill babies. Our team cares for babies born at Great Plains Health as well as those who are transferred here from other hospitals in our region.
Our NICU facility and team
Our NICU has all the special equipment that sick and premature babies need to get better. We also offer private rooms where you can feed and diaper your baby and enjoy skin-to-skin contact.
The NICU team includes:
- NICU nurses (registered nurses with specialized training in the care of premature and sick babies).
- Pediatricians.
- Respiratory therapists.
- Experts in speech, physical and occupational therapy.
- Lactation consultants.
Family-centered care
If your baby needs care in our NICU, you will be offered a private room that’s close by. You can visit your baby in our NICU 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For the health and safety of the fragile babies in our NICU, we only permit parents to visit.
