- Prostate cancer
No matter what type of cancer you have, we will offer you an individualized treatment plan that may include cancer surgery, chemotherapy, radiation treatment or some combination of these three therapies.
We'll be here to support and guide you through the entire cancer treatment and recovery process.
Cancer surgery expertise
We have two cancer surgeons on staff. If your case is complex, we can also call in specialists in urology, gynecology, orthopaedics, and head and neck cancers. These experts can consult on the case, and they can provide additional surgical procedures.
In addition, we partner with Nebraska Medicine to offer a thoracic surgery clinic, surgical management of the chest, and a surgical oncology clinic, surgical management of the liver, pancreas and biliary disorders, at the Callahan Cancer Center. Both consult and follow-up appointments are welcome.
Your cancer doctor will explain your surgery to you, and we'll help you understand what to do to prepare for the procedure. When surgery is complete, your team will go over any test results with you and help you plan your next cancer treatment steps.
Chemotherapy treatments
Our team of three medical oncologists will prescribe chemotherapy treatments for you based on your health and your cancer type. The Callahan Cancer Center is home to the largest infusion center in the region. We offer 12 infusion rooms and four bedrooms for your cancer chemotherapy treatments.
We also have a pharmacist on-site in the Callahan Cancer Center, so patients don't have to wait for medications from the hospital's central pharmacy.
Cancer radiation therapy
If you need radiation therapy, our on-site radiation oncologist will work with your medical oncologists and registered technicians and nurses to manage your treatment plan. Radiation therapy may include sophisticated treatments delivered via a Varian linear accelerator. This high-power x-ray machine enables advanced techniques, such as intensity modulation treatment for three-dimensional modeling. We also offer image-guided radiation therapy, which accounts for organ movement. These procedures allow us to pinpoint radiation and avoid healthy tissue during radiation treatment.
Advancing treatment with cancer clinical trials
Great Plains Health participates in clinical trials and national research protocols, giving you access to promising new treatments. In fact, you'll have access to many of the same treatments and drugs as patients in large metropolitan areas, such as Denver, Omaha or even New York City.
