Prepared childbirth

This one-day in-depth course, led by certified childbirth educators, is designed specifically to prepare you and your partner for the childbirth experience. Topics include the basics of pregnancy through labor and delivery, as well as postpartum; comfort strategies; breathing and relaxation techniques; medical interventions, such as epidurals and C-sections; and after-delivery care of the mother. Our instructors utilize visual aids, discussion, and practice! Each mother will also receive a comprehensive childbirth education booklet to keep. The class is free of charge and includes a tour of Great Plains Health's Women's Services' beautiful new birthing suites.

Newborn care

Everything needed to prepare for baby will be covered in this class. Topics include diapering, bathing, feeding techniques, skin care, jaundice, infant attachment and bonding, sleep, calming techniques, keeping your baby safe, warning signs, and how to help understand your baby's needs. You will also get information on car seats and car seat safety from a National Child Passenger Safety Technician.

Natural labor

In this class, you and your support person will both expand upon the knowledge you obtained from the Prepared Childbirth Class with an emphasis on having an unmedicated birth. The course will focus on exploring and practicing various techniques of relaxation, including imagery, massage, breathing, positioning for birth, aromatherapy, and other options for coping with stress and discomfort.
